Akash missile was developed under the project of integrated guided missile development program under the leadership of our honourable former president the great scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Now it is going into production for the Indian Air force under the deal of 499 cr between the Ministry of Defence
and Bharat Dynamics Limited ( BDL)
for supplying and production of Akash missile for Indian Air force

About Akash missile
Akash missile is a medium-range mobile surface to air missile system developed by Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO). The length of is missile is 578 cm (227 in) with a diameter of 30 to 35 cm, the mass is missile 720 kg. The Akash missile system can target aircraft up to 50-80 km away at altitude up to 18000 m and it has the capacity to neutralize aerial targets like a fighter jet, cruise missile and as well as ballistic missile at the speed of 1.8 to 2.5 Mach. Akash battery consists of 24 missiles and Each battery has four launchers with three missiles, while each Rajendra (radar) can guide eight missiles in total, with a maximum of two missiles per target.
Akash missile was commissioned in the Indian army in 2015 after the sixth successful result trials and the unit cost of a missile is around Rs 2 crore ( US$ 500k) and many countries are interesting to buy Akash missile system

We Indians do not need to buy poor quality missiles or not working missiles like one of our neighbour because we have great scientists like Dr APJ Abdul Kalam 😎
